Bogus Basin invests over $5 million in new projects

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — After a successful season last year, the Bogus Basin team wanted to enhance this year's experience with some big changes.

"We have an obligation to reinvest that money back into the ski areas, so we spent over $5 million on capital projects this year," said Brad Wilson, general manager for Bogus Basin.

For those new skiers, you can expect more beginner-friendly trails.

"We now have a top to bottom truly beginner trail that the ski school will use, and people that come off of coach looking for that next step will be," Wilson said.

There will also be a new way to access the ski lift. You'll now have to scan your pass at electronic gates.

"To access all of our base area lifts, all you need is an RFID card. So, your season pass will be that, and if you buy a lift ticket, you'll be issued an RFID card, and you'll be able to get right on the chair lift without having to take that out and show it to a lift attendant," Wilson said.

To accommodate more people, lift chairs will be added.

"We added enough chairs to both, chair three and chair two, so Morning Star and Superior to increase the uphill capacity by 30%," Wilson said.

You can also expect more snow this year.

"We doubled the amount of water we can pump through our snow-making system," Wilson said.

For those who enjoy night skiing, more lights have been added to trails.

"We doubled the amount of lit trails on the Superior side of the mountain for night skiing," Wilson said.

"As a nonprofit, our mission is to provide affordable, fun, accessible mountain recreation, and we don't want to turn people away if we can help it."

To help with all the fun this year, Bogus Basin will be hiring over 500 employees.
