Dive team responds to possible drowning at Parkcenter Pond, man taken to hospital

Boise Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Rasulo said the dive team recovered a man from Parkcenter Pond after reports of drowning came in at 8:55 p.m. Thursday.

"During the dive operations, we were able to find the male subject and he was removed from the water," Rasulo said. "The patient care was initiated and he has been transported to the hospital."

Rasulo said this is what they call a cold water drowning, which means the survivability goes up even though they were in the water longer than normal.

Two witnesses say a man went under the water and did not surface, near the east end of the pond. The Boise Fire Dive Team located a man in his 30’s, 28 minutes after the last time a witness reported seeing him in the water," said Char Jackson, communications manager for the Boise Fire Department. "CPR was initiated after the man was pulled from the water. He was transported to a Boise hospital."

Anything under 70 degrees is considered cold water. As a result of these circumstances, patient care was initiated and any further status will be determined at the hospital.

From the time the call was reported to the time he was taken out of the water was 28 minutes.

CBS 2 received witness reports of someone going under the water, others screaming for help, and someone being pulled out of the water.

This story will be updated.

UPDATE:

The Ada County coroner's office has confirmed the man has passed away.
