Gerard Butler adopted a dog he named Shushka while filming in Bulgaria in November 2017. “She was a stray while I was filming up a mountain in Bulgaria. Stole my heart,” Butler added. “Shushka” is what an assistant director said when calling the stray over. Butler liked the sound of it, so he named her “Shushka.” in the clip below, he reveals he eventually found out “Shushka” is not actually a name but a casual Bulgarian expression similar to saying, “Hey there.”
Gerard Butler used to have a rescued Pug named Lolita. Sometime in the mid-2010s, Lolita was tragically killed by coyotes.
It’s weird because I never thought of it that way. I saw this little dog and fell in love with it and adopted it. And then, when I saw the first paparazzi photos she barely comes up to my ankles. And it’s like, ‘What are we doing together?’ My Lolita – she’s a little pug, she’s beautiful.
