Good Luck Charlie Introduces Disney Channel's First Gay Couple

The Disney Channel introduced its first-ever gay couple on the popular family series Good Luck Charlie in a groundbreaking episode Sunday.

Parents Amy and Bob Duncan, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer, set up a playdate for preschooler daughter Charlie (Mia Talerico).

Little Charlie’s new friend, it turns out, has two mothers.

"This particular storyline was developed under consultancy of child development experts and community advisors," a spokesperson said this week.

"Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."

It was welcomed by one prominent former Disney child star, Miley Cyrus, who took to twitter last summer to address the rumor, saying: "Is this true?!?!?!"

Hundreds of the show’s fans went online to welcome the controversial development, which was also met with the obligatory backlash from critics.

The right-wing group One Million Moms, best known for a failed boycott against JCPenney after the chain hired Ellen DeGeneres, condemned it.

"Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid controversial topics that children are far too young to comprehend," organizers wrote in response.

Whatever you think of the characters, they will be short-lived.

The lesbian moms appeared on the penultimate episode of Good Luck Charlie. The Season 4 finale, scheduled for February 16, will be its finale.
