Priscilla Shirer and Aspen Kennedy Share the Importance of New Faith-Based Film The Forge (Exc

We all need someone who believes in us, and powerful new film The Forge explores the importance of being that person for the next generation.

The latest offering from the Kendrick Brothers, which is now playing in select theaters nationwide as of Friday (August 23), is a faith-filled flick featuring familiar friends and inspiring new twists.

According to its synopsis, Isaiah Wright (played by Aspen Kennedy) has some growing up to do. A year out of high school with no plans for his future, Isaiah is challenged by his single mom (played by Priscilla Shirer) and a successful businessman to start charting a better course for his life. Through the prayers of his mother and a prayer warrior named Miss Clara (played by Karen Abercrombie), as well as biblical discipleship from his new mentor, Isaiah begins to discover God’s purpose for his life is so much more than he could hope for or imagine.

“[This film] is really important because it highlights so many things that people are needing in their lives or may have voids in their lives of trying to figure things out. They may not have the exact positive or the correct community around them to say things like, ‘you’re not in this alone,’ ‘I can help you along the way’ or ‘I can see the potential that’s in you.’ That really pulled me into the script and I really loved it when I read it,” Aspen tells Celeb Secrets exclusively during a virtual interview.

“I loved that this film focuses on a young 19-year-old man. I am a mother of three sons that are all about that age, and so the thought that there could be a mentor that can have the kind of impact on my son’s lives… that is something that as a parent, I want to know is possible for my children as well,” Priscilla adds.

With a relatable storyline that can touch so many, The Forge shows that just a little faith can help give guidance on overcoming personal problems and be the best version of yourself that you’ll ever be.

“I feel like it’s really important because, especially in today’s time, you have so much going on in the world where, people are looking for answers. They’re looking for solutions to personal problems — to life problems — and not just problems in the sense of a bad thing, but just saying, ‘hey, I don’t know what to do next.’ And I believe this film is not only a powerful, impactful message, but at the same time, it’s a helpful tool and resource to say, ‘hey, maybe I should get connected to those who are followers of Christ to be able to learn what it is to love another and learn what it is to pour into someone else. It’s really important,” Aspen shares.

“Just like my book [‘I Surrender All’], this movie encapsulates the message of surrendering everything to Jesus. It’s a free gift to be a Christian. You receive it when you place faith in Jesus Christ,” Priscilla adds. “I’m so glad it’s free, but you can be a believer. You can be a Christian and not be fully surrendered, not be a disciple because discipleship costs a lot, but he’s worth it. He gave everything for us.”

“And so this movie and the book, I Surrender All is an invitation and an opportunity for you to really surrender everything to Jesus to kind of tell you how to do that and what that looks like. It also shows you the abundant life that you get in exchange for what it is that you surrender to Him,” she continues.
