Riquna Williams of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces was recently booked under felony domestic charges involving her wife. She’s just coming off of a championship run as a 10-year veteran. But things can go south from here onwards. Riquna Williams is facing five felony charges and four misdemeanor domestic battery charges. As of now, she’s out of jail without needing any bail. However, she is under alcohol monitoring.
Williams didn’t speak during her first hearing in court and the next date for her is August 2. The judge has also told her to have no contact with her spouse. Her wife has already relocated herself. The victim also stated that they got married in 2022 and were in a relationship for four years.
According to the evidence obtained by ESPN, Riquna Williams accused her spouse to be unfaithful in the marriage. The WNBA star left to stay in the hotel but took the belongings of her wife with her as well. Later she even logged in to her mobile to find evidence of cheating. When Williams returned back home an argument between the couple ensued.
It didn’t take long for the verbal banter to turn aggressive. Reports claim Williams punched, kicked, and attempted to strangle her wife. After doing so she left the house and the wife called the cops some hours later. She reported the violent assault lasted for an hour. The police department has also reported injury marks on the victim’s face.
This isn’t the first time Riquna Williams has been booked for domestic violence charges. In 2019, the WNBA suspended her for 10 games after her arrest following a violent incident in Florida with her ex-girlfriend.
The Las Vegas Aces have ruled out Williams from team activities. As they issued a statement that read, “The Las Vegas Aces were made aware of domestic violence charges against a member of our team, Riquna Williams. As an organization, we condemn domestic violence of any kind. At this time, Riquna Williams will be precluded from participating in team activities. Our thoughts are with the parties involved in this situation. We are currently gathering more information, and as such we will not have any further comments at this time.”
The basketball fans aren’t holding themselves back while reacting to the arrest of WNBA’s Riquna Williams. Fans are clowning her and have even brought Ja Morant and Las Vegas Raiders into the conversation. Many even came with prison league jokes. They believe she can get some good minutes to play in there. Find some of the many reactions posted by fans on Twitter here below:
Riquna Williams can end up with a sentence this time if proven guilty of the 9 domestic battery charges against her. She was yet to suit up in the league this season. Williams is dealing with a lower back injury. In her absence, the Las Vegas Aces brought in rookie guard Ashley Jones on an emergency hardship contract last week.
